Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist

Dr. Zeid Al-Ani is the lead Radiologist and the founder of The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound & Injections clinic.​

He is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with extensive experience in the various aspects of musculoskeletal imaging and intervention (sports and arthritis imaging and intervention, and spine and sarcoma imaging).

 

He has a special interest in performing procedures under ultrasound guidance, including:

Experience & training

Dr Zeid Al-Ani completed his 6-year undergraduate medical training in Iraq at the University of Baghdad, where he was granted his Bachelor degree in medicine and surgery (MBChB) at 2006. He did his Foundation and medical training in the Yorkshire region followed by a 5-year specialist radiology training in the Northwest of England (Manchester region). He then pursued two years of further specialist training in musculoskeletal radiology; one at Sheffield teaching hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and a second in Canada at the University of Alberta.

In 2018, he was appointed as a consultant radiologist at the prestigious "Wrightington Hospital". Wrightington hospital is a centre of excellence in orthopaedic surgery and a major centre for joints replacement. It has its origins in the seminal work of Professor Sir John Charnley, who pioneered hip replacement surgery in the world. He worked closely with Orthopaedic and Rheumatology specialists at the upper and lower limb units at Wrightington for more than 3 years. Currently, he is working as a Consultant musculoskeletal radiologist at Kingston Hospitals NHS Trust.

Dr Al-Ani has authored book chapters and published in various medical and radiological journals. His latest work concentrated on the radiological features and management of elbow fracture-dislocation injuries. He has presented at various national and international meetings including the United Kingdom Imaging and Oncology Conference (UKIO) and The Radiological Society of Northern America (RSNA).

Dr Al-Ani is passionate about teaching and has delivered multiple teaching sessions to medical students, trainee doctors and post graduate students. He currently holds an academic position of an honorary visiting senior lecturer at the Manchester Metropolitan University. He has designed a unique application available on the Android and iOS platforms providing a useful guideline about the different classifications and measurements used in musculoskeletal radiology.

Dr Al-Ani is affiliated with the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), British Society of Skeletal Radiology (BSSR), European Society of Skeletal Radiology (ESSR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). When he is not working, Dr Al-Ani likes to enjoy his time with the family and keep fit.

  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists UK (FRCR).

  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians UK (MRCP).

  • Bachelor of General Medicine and General Surgery (MBChB), Baghdad University/Iraq.

Notable achievements

  • North American musculoskeletal radiology fellowship (University of Alberta/Canada 2017).

  • Zeid regularly publishes and reviews in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

  • He is an invited speaker to conferences and lectures nationally and internationally. Recently, he achieved a certificate of Merit from the prestigious Radiological Society of North America (RSNA 2021) for his work on the imaging of elbow fracture dislocation injuries.

  • He is passionate about teaching and education, and the winner of the "outstanding trainer/supervisor award" at Wrightington 2021.
